Allamerican Phoebe, who cut her teeth on New Jersey Sire Stakes, effectively used that experience on Tuesday at The Meadows when she captured the $8,000 opening leg of the Mary Wohlmuth Trot, a series for freshman fillies.

While she finished no better than fourth in her two stakes, those races gave Allamerican Phoebe an experience edge over most of her rivals. She showed it by going wire-to-wire for Dave Palone in 2:01.3, 4 1/2 lengths better than Nordic Nymph. Leader Of The Bax finished third.

Mickey Burke trains the daughter of Muscles Yankee-Phoebe Seelster for Sylvia Burke, Lawrence Karr and Thomas Cherichello.

The series was named for the late Mary Wohlmuth, longtime manager and hostess of the 2:00 Club at The Meadows.

In the $23,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot, Whotookwhat worked her way through backside traffic and went on to a decisive victory in 1:56.3. Despite being parked every step, Go Get Blanche was second by two lengths, with That Fly’n Angel a closing third.

Whotookwhat has won 44 races and $489,904 in her career. Ray Paver trains and drives the 6-year-old daughter of Inquirer for William and Barbara Paull. (The Meadows)
