All five at the wire

A five-horse field in the Friday feature from Pompano Park resulted in a five-horse win photo as Montana Moonlite A edged past her rivals to win the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I Pace in 1:53.2.

Starting from post five in the evening’s opening event, Montana Moonlite A and driver Anthony Napolitano settled in fourth place while the Illinois-bred mare My Metallica (Wally Hennessey) showed the way through opening fractions of :27.2 and :56.3.

As the pacers marched down the backstretch, Wilma Hall (Bruce Ranger) was angled off the pylons to begin a first-over assault, allowing Montana Moonlite A to grab her cover as My Metallica cruised by the three-quarters marker in 1:25.2.

Wilma Hall wrestled the lead away from My Metallica and entered the stretch with a half-length advantage, but the daughter of Blissful Hall was unable to hold off the late charge of Montana Moonlite A, who rolled four wide down the lane to thrust her head in front at the wire for the victory.

Wilma Hall finished second, a head in front of the late charging Cape Cove Daisy (Stephan Lareau). It was another head back to My Metallica, who crossed the line a nose ahead of race favorite Hypnotize (David Ingraham).

Montana Moonlite A returned $9.20, $3.40 for the victory while Wilma Hall brought in $4.60 for second. There was no show wagering available on the Friday feature.

Owned by John Campagnuolo and Larry Silber of Pompano Beach, Montana Moonlite A has visited the winner’s circle in each of her last two outings. With her Friday victory, the Jacques Dupuis trainee has amassed over $95,000 in career earnings.
