Allmar Surprise turned in a lifetime-best clocking of 1:54 on the way to victory in the $26,000 Open Trot on Wednesday at Dover Downs, while Starsel won the $18,000 sub-feature trot.
Vic Kirby moved Allmar Surprise out of third on the first quarter turn then led seven rivals en route to a 1:54 conquest in the feature race. It was the Angus Hall-Benita Victory 4 year old's second win in a row and fifth win in her last six starts for owners Kirby and Matt Ivory. Allmar Surprise has now won $160,616 this year. Joey The Jet JT and Corey Callahan made a strong move at the winner heading to the final turn but could get no closer than three-quarters of a length at the wire. Man About Town close from seventh to finish third with Tony Morgan driving.
In the $18,000 sub-feature trot, Daryl Bier zipped Starsel from the out side into the lead and never looked back fashioning a 1:53.3 triumph. Sunland Dakota (Corey Callahan) sat second for the mile with Vicki Gram (Art Stafford Jr.) coming on for third. Bier owns Starsel with Glenn DelRusso and Charles Dombeck, the first of two winners during the program for owners and driver.
Rose Run Flash had just enough to hold off a fast finishing Impel Hanover at the wire in 1:56.2 to win a $15,000 conditioned trot in 1:56.2 for owner-trainer Lauren Alllen. Black Tie (George Dennis) finished between horses third. (Dover Downs)
