Allmar Surprise lived up to her name in the $26,000 Open Trot at Dover Downs on a rainy Veteran's day program on Wednesday. With co-owner, trainer and regular driver Vic Kirby sidelined by the flu, John Wagner pinch hit and hit a home run, driving Allmar Surprise from post eight to a wire-to-wire 1:56 victory, her 10th of the year for Kirby and Matt Ivory.

The Angus Hall-Benita Victory 4 year old has now won $147,616 in 2009. Spunky Vic took second money for Ross Wolfenden and Daryl Bier-driven Starsel was third.

Powerful Committee won the sub-feature for Ron Pierce in 1:57.4. Rose Run Flash (Ross Wolfenden) was second with race favorite Impel Hanover third. Powerful Committee, a 5-year-old CR Commando gelding from Mystic Virtue, is trained by Bobby Clark for Tina and Joanne Clark and Cantwell Bridge Stable. It was his third win of the season and raises his seasonal earnings to $42,740.

Ron Pierce drove four winners, Wolfenden a triple, while Bret Brittingham, Ben Stafford Jr. and Blake Baker won two races each.

On Veteran's day, the track saluted members of Military Order Of The Purple Heart, all of whom served the United States and with distinguished honors, some from World War II, the Korean conflict and in Viet Nam. (Dover Downs)
