October 20, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

A who’s who of three-year-old colt pacers turned out for the Messenger eliminations Saturday at Yonkers.  Always A Virgin and Hot Rod Mindale proved to be on top of their game as they took their respective divisions in 1:53.1 and 1:54.

Brian Sears and Always A Virgin got away fourth, pulled at the half and took the lead from Southwind Lynx and Tim Tetrick at the finish.  Posting a :27.3 last quarter, Always A Virgin won by half a length.  Forensic Z Tam (Pat Lachance) came from last at the top of the stretch to be third, Watta Hotshot (Greg Grismore) finished fourth and Pandoras Sox (Dave Miller) was fifth, just three and a half lengths from the winner.

Joe Holloway trains the Western Ideal colt who is owned by Bluewood Stable, Roll The Dice Stable and Val D'Or Farms.  Always A Virgin will be going for his 15th lifetime start in the Messenger Final.

Hot Rod Mindale used the stay close to the rail strategy to win his Messenger elim in 1:54.  Also posting a :27.3 last quarter, Hot Rod Mindale (Dave Miller) took the lead from pacesetter Tivoli Hanover (George Brennan).  Kenneth J (Ron Pierce) finished third, race favorite Yankee Skyscaper (Dave Palone) was fourth and Running Brook (Brian Sears) finished fifth.  Only three lengths separated all five entries.

Hot Rod Mindale is trained by James Arledge for owners Joe Sbrocco, Frank Dettore and William Donovan.

The $725,480 Messenger Final, the third and final leg of the Pacing Triple Crown, will be held Saturday, October 27.
