September 03, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Always A Virgin took command from his stablemate Fresh Deck at about the halfway mark and then cruised home to a 1:51.1 victory in the Cane Pace, the first leg of pacing's Triple Crown, Monday afternoon at Freehold Raceway. Southwind Lynx, the winner of the $1 million Art Rooney Pace earlier this year, nipped Fresh Deck for second after starting the race several lengths behind the field.

Brian Sears drove Always A Virgin, who is trained by Joe Holloway. Always A Virgin olt had been poised to win the $1 million Meadowlands Pace when Sears hit him with the whip and the colt broke stride.

Fractions for the $297,500 Cane final were :26.4, :54.3 and 1:22.1. The entry of Fresh Deck and Always A Virgin was the 4-5 betting favorite.
