Meadowlands Pace runner-up Always B Miki stepped to the head of the class of 3-year-old male pacers in the Hoosier State on Saturday night as he won a $75,000 Indiana Sires Stakes final by 4 1/2 lengths in 1:48.4. Always B Miki is a son of Always A Virgin, whose daughter Colors A Virgin won the 3-year-old filly pace final in 1:51.2.
Driven by Peter Wrenn, Always B Miki turned in a :26.3 final quarter to seal a victory over previous division kingpin Bluehourpower. Joe Holloway trains Always B Miki, who will campaign in the Indiana Sires Stakes and is scheduled to compete in Grand Circuit action at The Red Mile next month.
The other Indiana Sires Stakes finals for 3 year olds were won by the trotting filly Andi's Alana, who stayed unbeaten this season with her two length score in 1:55.1 for driver Lewayne Miller and trainer Erv Miller; Colors A Virgin, who jogged home a three-length winner in 1:51.2 for driver Trace Tetrick and trainer Brian Brown; and Nothinbutanallstar, who took the 3-year-old colt and gelding trot for trainer-driver Mark O'Mara in 1:54.3. Colors A Virgin was handed by Trace Tetrick, who was in the sulky for trainer Brian Brown.
