Nifty Fellow and Winslow Gambler led the way into next Saturday's $90,000 American-National 2-year-old colt pace final when they won their respective eliminations Saturday night at Balmoral Park.

Nifty Fellow, recent winner of the Hanover Colt Stakes, came late--he was 10 lengths off the pacesetter at the half--to win his elimination in 1:53.3 for driver Brent Holland. Jate Daniels (Mark O'Mara) took second while Intendto's Majesty,Roll Bar Hanover and Winbak Bini also advanced.

"I told Brent (driver Holland) just see how it works out. I just didn't want to get into a speed duel with him," winning trainer Ken Rucker said. "They went out there good enough that it worked out well for us. The whole trip just worked out great."

Joe To Go, the 1-5 favordite, failed to be among the first five finishers in the first elimination.

The favored Winslow Gambler was all alone at the wire in the second division, winning in 1:53.4.

The Erv Miller-trained youngster pulled away from the field in the stretch and won by two lengths in 1:53.4 for Winslow Hill Stable of Wylie, S.C.

AB's Beach Boy, Keystone Resident, Life Guard On Duty, and Jandj Art, the second through fifth-place finishers, also earned starting berths in the July 23 American-National Final.
