The Premio Orsi Mangelli, Italian trotting’s major stake race will be raced on Sunday, Nov. 1 at the San Siro track in Milan. A pair of American horses, Explosive Matter ($1,479,469) and Zweig winner Copy Catch ($194,757) have joined the European entrants. Both were sired by Cantab Hall.
The Orsi Mangelli will be raced in two elimination heats of 1,600 meters (just short of a mile), each worth about $82,000 (US) with the final at just over $411,000 (US).
Explosive Matter, runner up to Muscle Hill in five starts this season including the Hambletonian and Kentucky Futurity, was sent to Italy for this race, skipping the Breeders Crown. The toughest challenger to Explosive Matter, who drew the rail in his elimination, will most likely be the Swedish-bred, German-owned and Holland-trained Zola Boko (Goetmals Wood), who drew post 10 in the second elimination.
A rich and diverse cast of European trotters join the American horses including Italians trotters Macho Gams (Lemon Dra), Mirtillo Rosso (Legendary Lover K), Mind Wise AS (Lemon Dra), Main Wise AS (Yankee Glide)and Mario Tommaseo (Armbro Goal)
