May 19, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After posting a qualifying win in 1:56.3 at Flamboro Downs May 3 and then another qualifying victory at Mohawk May 12 in 1:54.2, American Ideal kicked it up a notch by pacing to a 1:50.3 score in a qualifier Friday morning, again at Mohawk.

With Mark MacDonald driving for trainer Casie Coleman, the 4-year-old son of Western Hanover was parked at the opening quarter of :27.4 but then hit the beam at the next two stations in :56.4 and 1:23.3. A final quarter in :27 was more than enough for American Ideal as he drew clear of his competition to win by 23 3/4 lengths.

American Ideal won 10 of 22 starts last year at three, including his world-record 1:47.4 victory in a Bluegrass division at The Red Mile in early October.
