American wins Count B

January 22, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Favorite American Ideal had no problems Friday night in winning the $45,800(C) Count B Series final at Woodbine. The 3-year-old son of Western Ideal settled into the early led and led throughout for driver Mark MacDonald to win in 1:55.2 in bitterly cold conditions.

Owned by Mac Nichol, American Ideal earned his second win to go along with a second in three Ontario appearances since shipping into the care of trainer Casie Coleman in mid-December.

"I got him two weeks before his first start here," said Coleman. "The first time I trained him I knew he was something. I only went a mile in (2):20, but he was unbelievable. He could just accelerate. He acts like a 6-year-old racehorse. Not much bothers him." Coleman added he will give his charge some time off before preparing him for the Berry's Creek at the Meadowlands.

Also on the card, Chris Christoforou won a Woodbine record seven races, five for trainer Joe Stutzman.
