After a nearly two month absence from the winner's circle Anders Bluestone returned in full force to win the $23,000 feature trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday. The win elevated Anders Bluestone into the $1 million win club.
The 7-year-old son of Yankee Glide-Annette Hanover went right to the front and driver Ross Wolfenden never looked back en route to a 1:54 victory. Allmar Surprise spent the race in the pocket and finished second for driver Vic Kirby. Track older trot record holder, He's Spooky and Eric Carlson, the race favorite, spent the entire mile racing on the outside and still finished third. Mandabra (Corey Callahan) broke stride heading to the first turn yet recovered to finish fourth.
Anders Bluestone won the first Open trot of the new year on Jan. 2, and then was sidelined for the next three weeks with a foot ailment and poor training conditions before getting back to the track. After a pair of lackluster performances, the trotter began to look like his old self last week finishing third. Eric Ell trains Anders Bluestone for Ken Wood and Bill Dittmar. The trotter has now won $25,760 this year and $1,000,285 lifetime. (Dover Downs)
