Annika S holds on at PPK

Return Home
December 07, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Annika S, superbly handled by Dave Ingraham for trainer Peter Blood, blew past the favorite, Time Slips Away, on the backstretch, and went on a 1:56.3 victory in the Wednesday night feature for pacers at Pompano Park.

Owned by Gary Piontkowski and the Robert Rosenheim Stables, the 3-year-old daughter of Sealed N Delivered earned her sixth win of the season in 25 starts to send her 2006 bankroll to just a few dollars shy of $22,000.

With an early battle developing between Macks A Pearl (Sean Bier) and Time Slips Away (Joe Pavia Jr.), Ingraham, who left from post six, was able to work his way into third as Time Slips Away clocked an opening panel of :28 and a half in :58.1. It was right there that Ingraham sent his filly brushing toward--and past--the leader, and she opened up a daylight lead past three-quarters in 1:26.2.

Though a bit leg-weary at the end of the journey, Annika S did prevail over Time Slips Away, by three parts of a length. Dream Misty (Brett Miller) was third.

In the co-featured pace, Rod Grady’s Jolly Good Fella came flying on the far outside to nail victory in the final strides in 1:57.2.

The son of Oxford Fella was last after the first half-mile before following live cover on the backstretch, to reach contention turning for home. Once they straightened away, Wallis sent Jolly Good Fella to the far outside, and they just did prevail over VC Scooter (Rick Schaut), by a head. Lislea Galterio (Bier) was third in the photo, while Class Action Scoot (Ingraham) was fourth.

It was win number eight on the season for Jolly Good Fella in 38 starts.

In other pacing action, Tweet Rose, driven by Miller, knocked 4 3/5 seconds off of her previous lifetime best of 2:00 by scoring a well-earned win in 1:55.2.

The daughter of Falcon Seelster, who had but a single win last year at age two, got her first win in 19 starts this year, and did so by gutting her way past Nat King Cole N and Schaut in the final stages to score by a bit more than a length. Holy Coley was third for driver Wallis.

Tweet Rose is trained by Terry Merriman for owner Alex Puchall of Clarksburg, N.J.

The mid-week trotting feature went to Modern Marvel, driven by Wallis, in 1:58.1. The 4-year-old gelded son of Self Possessed sprinted out of the gate and opened a five-length lead around the first turn, and proceeded to clock fractions of :27.4, :56.4, and 1:26.4 before coasting home in :31.2 to score by 2 1/4 lengths, over Proud Chipper (Bruce Ranger) and Marian’s Man (Ingraham) for his seventh win of the year in 30 starts.

Angelo Kosmos (Marc Aubin) was fourth, while the favorite, Source of Luck, never got into the race from the outside, nine post, but did earn the final purse check.

Modern Marvel is trained by Linda Wallis for the Cuzzins Stable of Delray Beach, Fla. (Pompano Park)
