Another top Teague filly

February 24, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After Future Destiny won the $64,000 Tender Loving Care final at the Meadowlands Friday night with a 1:53.2 effort, trainer George Teague Jr. was asked if she could be another Rainbow Blue. "I'm praying for it!" quipped Teague.

Ron Pierce, who drives Rainbow Blue, has been in the bike for both of Future Destiny's starts. Pierce put the Artiscape-sired filly in a second-over position on the backstretch before clearing to the lead past the half. From there Future Destiny cruised home without any necessary encouragement from Pierce.

Gro, trained by Erv Miller and driven by Erv's brother, Andy, weaved through traffic in the homestretch and got up for second with a :27.4 final quarter. Pacific Philly held on for third.

Future Destiny did not race as a 2 year old because of a stomach ailment that was so severe in April that they took her to the University of Pennsylvania's famed New Bolton Center. Even though it turned out the filly only had gas, Teague decided to pass on resuming her training.

"The speed's there, and she's got all the tools," he said of her future after accepting the Tender Loving Care trophy.
