March 10, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Apache Dame got back on the winning ledger scoring a 1:51.1 triumph in the $30,00 Mares Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs on Tuesday, while Sherri On Ice took the $20,000 distaff sub-feature. Ross Wolfenden had four trips to the winner's circle.

After starting from the outside in her previous two races, a change to the inside post was just what Apache Dame needed as last season's Horse of the Meet chalked up her third win of 2010 scoring a lifetime record 1:51.1 triumph. Wolfenden drove the 9-year-old daughter of Apaches Fame-Amerissa for trainer Peter Tritton and owners Paul McDougall and WJ McDougall Racing. Boots Place, winner of the previous two Opens raced gamely for Eric Goodell to finish second. Chloes Silver Star took third with Ron Pierce at the controls.

Sherri On Ice dashed down the lane to overtake front pacing Boca Hanover in the final strides to win the mares pace. Goodell drove the TR Stables' Sportsmaster-Snappy Image 7 year old to her first win of the year. Boca Hanover (Frank Milby) took the early lead and continued until the final strides to finish second. Docdoc Cam (Daryl Bier) closed fast for third.

The eight post was no obstacle for Miami Diva N and Jim Morand. The Presidential Ball-Miami Falcon 5 year old won her fifth of the year in six starts negotiating the mile in 1:54.4. Trained by Wayne Givens, Miami Diva N is owned by Vicki Givens, Arlene Paisley and Sharon White and now has won $35,775 since arriving in the States. For driver Moran, it was his second win on the card. Fox Valley Patina (Tony Morgan) was next with If Only You Knew (Wolfenden) taking third place. (Dover Downs)
