For the second consecutive Tuesday, Apache Dame turned back eight adversaries to win the $27,000 Mares Open pace on Jan. 6 at Dover Downs. In addition, Chloes Silver Star and Erma La Em won the $23,000 and $18,000 co-features and Tony Morgan racked up a four-win night.

Following a one year absence from racing, Apache Dame has made a successful return to the track, and on Tuesday fashioned her second straight win, a 1:53 victory in the $27,000 Mares Open pace. Teamed with Ross Wolfenden, the Apaches Fame--Amerissa 8-year-old trained by Peter Tritton for owners Paul McDougall and WJ McDougall Racing, Inc., held off a late rally by Pacific Philly (Eddie Davis, Jr.). Boots Place (Mike Cole) was the show finisher.

Chloes Silver Star pulled past Faithfully (Vince Copeland) while approaching the finish line and notched a 1:54.1 victory in a $23,000 Mares Open Handicap pace, giving the sport’s leading driver, Tony Morgan, his fourth win on the program. Gary Evans and Foulk Stables own the 5-year-old by Intrepid Seelster and out of Silver Chloe. Finishing third was Badlands Iron Lady (Eddie Davis, Jr.).

Overlooked at 14-1 after an impressive win in her last start, Joe Barbera’s Erma La Em, conditioned by Steve Le Blanc, raced like a favorite instead of as a longshot with Jim Morand piloting her to a 1:53.4 score in an $18,000 distaff pace. Nidya A (Ross Wolfenden) streaked down the passing lane to finish within a head of the winner, and Ashleys Lucky Lady (Eddie Davis, Jr.) was third. (Dover Downs)
