Arch Madness pulls away in 1:51.4

Arch Madness held off a challenge from favored Four Starz Speed around the far turn and pulled away in the stretch to a 1:51.4 victory in Friday night’s featured $31,000 Invitational Trot at the Meadowlands.

Driven by Brian Sears, Arch Madness [$6.40, $4.20, $2.80] assumed the lead from Prayer I Am midway down the backstretch through fractions of :28 and :55.1.  It took a :27.1 second quarter for Arch Madness to take the lead, and then he had to deal with a challenge from 6-5 favorite Four Starz Speed. But Arch Madness had plenty left to hold him off and pull away to the win.
 
Prayer I Am [$5.80, $3.60] rallied past Four Starz Speed [$3.20] in the stretch for second in the night’s fifth race.
 
It was the first win of 2009 for Arch Madness who improved his career record to 14-12-1 in 37 careers starts for owner Marc D. Goldberg and Willow Pond LLC.  Trained by Trond Smedshammer, Arch Madness increased his career earnings to nearly $1.7 million. (Meadowlands)
