Armbro Damien in 1:52.1

Armbro Damien won the $150,000 Nat Christie Memorial final Sunday afternoon at Stampede Park, turning in a 1:52.1 effort to seal the deal for driver Ron Pierce and trainer Bob McIntosh. Last year Pierce won the race with All Over The Place.

Armbro Damien, a son of Western Hanover-Armbro Romance, won the Diplomat Pacing Series at Woodbine earlier this and competed in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes, earning a berth into the Sept. 2 final with this fourth-place standing.

As for the victory at Stampede, Armbro Damien first own his elimination to advance to the final. He dominated his elim, winning by more than five lengths in 1:51.2. The second elim was won by Western Canada Pacing Derby winner champion Hyperion Hanover, who scored in 1:54.3.

In the final Armbro Damien left from post two in the final and yielded briefly to Hyperion Hanover before moving up to take over the lead just past the opening quarter of :26. 4. Once on top Armbro Damien never relinquished control through fractions of :54.2 and 1:22.1. He finished 2 ¾ lengths ahead of runner-up Truckin Jones while Blue Star Majesty took third. Elim winner Hyperion Hanover was eighth, beaten 23 lengths.
