Armbro Deuce to Winbak of Canada

October 18, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Winbak Farm of Canada in conjunction with Robert Burgess, Karin Olsson Burgess, Neal Cooper and Richard Kostoff, are pleased to announce the addition of Armbro Deuce to Winbak's Canadian stallion roster in 2008.

"Were excited about the addition of Armbro Deuce, who was an impressive winner in the Confederation Cup at Ontario's Flamboro Downs," said Winbak's general manager, Joe McLead. "He's a son of Western Ideal out of the celebrated mare Michelles Fantasy."

A winner of five races and over $757,230, Armbro Deuce equaled a then-world record of 1:50.2 on a half-mile track in winning the $508,000(C) Confederation Cup at Flamboro Downs in August 2006.

Under the care of trainer Blair Burgess, who once called Armbro Deuce "a horse with lots of tactical speed," he paced three sub-1:50 miles in his sophomore campaign: the elimination (2nd) and final (third) of the Meadowlands Pace and in the Oliver Wendell Holmes (2nd) on Hambletonian Day.

Armbro Deuce paced the fastest opening quarter in the history of the Little Brown Jug (:25.2) in his elimination on Sept. 21, 2006 at the Delaware County Fair. He returned later in the day to post a brave third-place finish to Mr Feelgood.

"I can remember him as a yearling when we sold him through Armstrong," said Winbak's Canadian farm manager Larry Drysdale. "I remember him being a very good-looking yearling."

Armbro Deuce's 2008 service fee has been set at $5,000(C). (Winbak Farm)
