Armbro Flight win a dream for Lavec Dream

June 30, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Peaceful Way appeared headed for her third straight Armbro Flight triumph but with about 50 yards to the finish line her two-length lead suddenly evaporated when she made a break, providing the opening for Lavec Dream to rush past and to the 1:52.3 victory in the $354,000(C) contest Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack.

After getting away fifth with Peaceful Way, driver Paul MacDonell sent her to the lead, moving past the leading Lavec Dream and driver Yannick Gingras shortly past the :56 half. Peaceful Way looked to be in complete control from that point on but through the stretch began to lose her gait, finally going offstride nearing the shadow of the wire. Gingras had been in pursuit with Lavec Dream and appeared to have second place locked up, but when the leader bobbled he took full advantage and got the 6-year-old mare home first.

Passionate Glide, who had ranged up first-over around the final turn for Mike Lachance, ended up second, with the Chris Christoforou-driven Snazzy Millie third. Peaceful Way was able right herself and hold onto fourth, with Birminghim picking up the final check.

Trained in Canada by Mark Silva for owner Peter Kleinhans, the 6-year-old Enjoy Lavec daughter Lavec Dream won for the 16th time in 81 career starts. She increased her earnings to more than $530,000 with the victory.
