Armbro Prowess (Speedy Crown–Sugarbear Hanover–Super Bowl) 2, 1:56.2 ($430,004), the 1996 Two-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Jan. 29, at owner Robert Rosenheim's farm in Stillwater, NY. The 16-year-old mare was in foal to Malabar Man and went into premature labor. Her foal was aborted and her uterus prolapsed, and sadly there was nothing veterinarians could do to save her and she had to be euthanized.
Armbro Prowess won the 1996 Breeders' Crown 2-Year-Old Filly Trot, along with stakes at The Red Mile. She bested Vernon Blue Chip by 23 votes to earn year-end honors.
As Armbro Prowess was being prepped for her sophomore season by trainer Jimmy Takter, she suffered an injury that forced her retirement. Her last foal is a colt by Andover Hall that she delivered last year.
"She was a very sweet horse and she will be missed by all who cared for her at Robert Rosenheim Stables," saids a farm press release.
