A romp in the sand again

Tintabella N put in a game performance for driver Daryl Bier and scored a determined half-length victory in Pompano Park’s $10,000 Open Handicap Pace for the mares on Friday night. The 5-year-old daughter of Tinted Cloud, owned by Bier along with Glenn Del Russo, earned her ninth win of the year in 19 starts to send her bankroll for the year to $45,175.

Her mile was negotiated in 1:53.3 in pinning a narrow defeat on Wilma Hall (Wally Hennessey) and Chip And Gale A (Bruce Ranger).

It was Tintabella N’s first win since taking her lifetime mark of 1:52.1 on July 21 and was done in ultra game fashion in, first, wearing down her stablemate, Chip And Gale A in the final sixteenth and, then, holding off the late surge of Wilma Hall to the wire. Hyde Park Hussie N was fourth for Dave Ingraham while Asian Paradise N earned a minor award with Marc Aubin in the bike.

In other action, Don Brainard’s Sand Prince lit up the Pompano Park toteboard for the second straight week with a 1:58.1 lifetime best performance.

Last week, the 4 year old was 10 lengths up turning for home and just lasted by a head while drifting out to the center of the track during the mile at 21-1. This week, Brainard let him loose again and carved out fractions of :28.4, :56.2 and 1:26.2 while the trotter continually drifted out. It was no contest this week, though, as Sand Prince won by 10 ¼ lengths at 31-1.

Possibility was second for Anthony Napolitano while Bruce Ranger’s King Kate was third.

Finally, in the co-feature for the mares, Youngbro Fancy was given a perfectly rated drive by Stephan Lareau and scored a gate to wire win in a new lifetime mark of 1:54.3 for the Comedy Hill Stable of Plantation.

The 4-year-old daughter of Matt’s Amore zipped out of the gate and reached the opening panel in :28.1 and then was given a :30 breather to reach the half in :58.1. The “official” sign could have gone up right then as Lareau let his filly out a notch or two, reaching three-quarters in 1:26 before sprinting home in :28.3 to score by a length and a half over Our First Beast (Hennessey) and Silvers Luck (Matt Kakaley).
