Arrangements set for John Como, 88

Return Home
December 06, 2012 | Print View

John Como, owner of Scenic View Acres in Towaco, N.J., died on Wednesday, Dec. 5. He was 88.

Mr. Como and his son have owned horses for many years and their All Star Racing Inc. currently campaigns one of the top 3-year-old pacing colts, the million-dollar earner Bolt The Duer.

Mr. Como sold the family-owned container business of which he was president, AMCO Folding Carton, a few years ago to focus on racehorse interests with his son, John. The family has owned horses since the 1980s.

Pete Foley trains the stable's 2 and 3 year olds while Mark Ford conditions the older horses.

Born in Montville Township, N.J., Mr. Como resided in Towaco most of his life. He was on the board of directors of the Lakeland Bank. He served in the Army during World War II.

Visitation at Keri Memorial Funeral Home, 125 Main Street, Lincoln Park, N.J., will take place on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, followed by entombment at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.

In addition to his son, John, Mr. Como is survived by his sisters, Chris Dascenza and Ann Sgariato.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org), would be appreciated.
