Artcotic coasted to a three length victory and captured her second $85,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes Final on Saturday (October 13) at Freehold Raceway. Sent off as the 1-5 favorite in the seventh race, the daughter of Artiscape–Pumped did not disappoint, posting her seventh win of the year in a time of 1:53.3, only two-fifths of a second off the stakes record for 3-year-old pacing fillies that she shares with two others. Artcotic ($2.60, $2.10, $2.10), driven by Steve Smith and trained by George Teague, Jr., snagged the lead from Lightning D Dube as the fillies hit the quarter pole, repelled a challenge from Platinum Hanover ($2.80, $2.40) in the homestretch and scored her second straight win, fourth in her last five starts. It was 4-1/4 lengths back to Pop Diva ($2.60) in third. Platinum Hanover and Pop Diva are both by Western Ideal. Purchased for only $5,000 at the Harrisburg Yearling Sale, Artcotic races in the name of Rodney Mitchell Inc. of Dover, Del. and Montrell Teague of Harrington, Del. At 2, the filly won five of seven starts, including the Freehold final of the New Jersey Sires Stakes on September 9, 2006. She was also voted 2-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year by the New Jersey Sires Stakes Board of Trustees. With this victory, Artcotic has 12 wins and four seconds in 22 career starts and a bankroll of $320,886. (NJSS)
