Artcotic wins NJSS final

Artcotic overcame post position eight to win the $85,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Championship final for 2-year-old pacing fillies in 1:55.1 Saturday over the Freehold Raceway half-mile oval.

With Jack Baggitt Jr. driving, the daughter of Artiscape was parked to the quarter in 28 seconds, but overtook Mr Deli's Filly by the half-mile pole and stayed in front to win by a 1 1/2 lengths. Kisskissbangbang finished third.

It was the fifth victory in seven starts this year for Artcotic, trained by George Teague Jr. for lessee Rodney Mitchell Jr. of Camden, Del.The filly's career purse earnings reached $96, 062 with the victory.
