Trust The Artist won the $175,000 Western Canada Pacing Derby Saturday at Northlands Park in Edmonton, Alberta, by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:52.4. The 3-year-old son of Real Artist had finished second in his elim a week prior.

Trust The Artist led at every call for trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt, who shares ownership of the $33,000 yearling buy with Mike McAllister and Blair Corbeil. It was Trust The Artist's fifth win of the year and increased his career earnings to $137,953.

"You always see the guys winning the Stanley Cups and everything else and for us in harness racing, this is our Stanley Cup," Corbeil was quoted as saying afterward. "(And) believe me, it is just as tough to win as the Stanley Cup is."
