Artsplace at famed vet clinic

Artsplace, one of the sport’s leading pacing sires, has foundered and is in a life-threatening condition at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. The 18-year-old son of Abercrombie stands at stud at Southwind Farm in New Jersey, where he has been stabled since retiring from the track in late 1992.

Artsplace has sired 14 million-dollar winners including $2.7 million earner Art Major. Owned by a syndicate, he is managed by Brittany Farms Stallion Management.

Brittany Farms manager Art Zubrod said Artsplace has been suffering from a serious case of laminitis for quite some time. The horse was taken to the New Bolton Center late last week but has “progressively gotten worse.”

Artsplace’s sire, Abercrombie, lived with bad feet and eventually succumbed to laminitis as well at the age of 25.
