Artsplace improves slightly

The great pacing stallion Artsplace continues to battle laminitis, but his conditioned has improved slightly. According to Art Zubrod of Brittany Farms Stallion Management, veterinarians at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, where Artsplace is being treated, told him they were “slightly encouraged” by his response to treatment.

“We can't use the word optimistic to describe his condtion yet," added Zubrod. "The horse has been in the pool and there is some granulation on the hoof in question. The vets keep bringing up what a great horse he is, how brave and courageous. They said it was probably his toughness that got him into this situation. He didn’t show that he was lame, and until he spiked a temperature, no one knew how bad his condition was.”

Artsplace, an 18-year-old son of Abercrombie, has stood at stud at Southwind Farm in New Jersey since his retirement from racing after his 4-year-old season.
