Artzina charged down the stretch and repelled all challengers en route to victory in the $175,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes Final for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings Thursday night at the Meadowlands.
Driven by John Campbell and trained by Dylan Davis, Artzina used a first-over attack past the half-mile marker for his second win in three starts this year, while setting a lifetime mark of 1:52.3. Artzina took the lead at the top of the stretch and held off a surging Wearable Art and Tony Morgan by 2 3/4 lengths. Outsource and Ron Pierce finished three lengths back in third.
Artzina, a son of Artiscape-Koutzina, is owned by Kal Liebowitz (who along with Sheldon Zimbler bred the colt) of New York, New York, and Marc Rubach of West New York, New Jersey.
