Dandy’s Jewel turned in a gem of a performance on Thursday night in the Fillies and Mares Open at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway and obliterated her previous lifetime mark in the process. Brian Allen and Dandy’s Jewel sat mid-pack while Hidden Touch and Brian Cross led the field past a :27 opening quarter. Before the half, Allen pulled his 4-year-old charge, following John Stark and Annie Maguire N second-over past a half of :56.3. Dandy’s Jewel waited patiently to make her move as both Annie Maguire N and Hidden Touch battled to the three-quarters in 1:25.1. Three wide around the final turn, Allen and Dandy’s Jewel got the lead by the top of the stretch and charged home, stopping the timer in 1:54.2--1.2 seconds faster than her previous lifetime mark. Hypnotized and Gerry Mattison finished strong after being last nearly the whole mile to get up for second, and Hidden Touch held on for third. Owned by Alpine Meadow Racing Inc. and trained by Mickey McGivern, Dandy’s Jewel has five wins in 14 starts this year and is very close to the $200,000 mark in lifetime earnings. (Saratoga)
