A sassy winner at Dover

It was a big night for the Delaware stallion CR Commando with both Go Sassy Go and Rusty's Biggie winning the $26,500 Open and $23,000 Jr. Open trots, respectively, on a chilly Wednesday at Dover Downs. Tim Tetrick added four winners to his North American -and-track-leading totals.

For the second week in a row, Delbert Cain's Go Sassy Go, who moved up from the Jr. Open, scored a convincing 1:56.1 victory in the week's top trot. George Dennis was at the controls for the 5 year old's third win of the new year. Jake's Nordic, with Tim Curtin driving, led until before the final turn when the former Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund champion rolled past to take the lead and with a :28.4 final panel put away all challenges. Jake's Nordic held on for second. Mighty Moses two-race win streak ended with a third-place finish.

In the $23,000 Jr. Open trot, Rusty's Biggie made amends for a break at the start last week, by going to the top early for Tetrick in a never-look-back 1:55.3 triumph. Nathan My Boy and Brad Hanners shadowed the winner from the start to finish second with Kennywood and Roger Plante closing stoutly to take third place. Tom Kirby trains the CR Commando gelding for Horsemans Financial and Premier Racing Stable. Its Rusty's Biggie's second win in his last three starts.

Toby Lynch's Put Them On Hold put on a strong performance to win the $17,500 winners-over trot. After leading early, Moneyball (Tetrick) rushed past to get the lead on the clubhouse turn and quickly opened up a five-length lead on the backstretch. Plante kept Put Them On Hold alert in second and step-by-step closed the gap. In the stretch Moneyball's lead had shrunk to two lengths and Put Them On Hold wore down the leader to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:56.3. Mystery Solved (Jim King) was the show finisher.

In the top race for male pacers on the program, Heather Malone's Baylander scored a 1:57.1 win in a $12,000 Delaware pace. Mesquite Heat (Tetrick) was the place horse. AJ Arrow (Mike Cole) was third.

Gary and Barbara Iles' Lockes Of Love went into high gear with Ross Wolfenden at the controls around the final turn and rolled to a 1:56 triumph in a $10,500 mares pace. Campanellino (Eddie Davis Jr.) was next. Whammy Hanover (Tony Morgan) finished third.

There were several longshots during the card. In a $13,000 conditioned trot, 26-1 Sugar Valley Alley, owned, trained and driven by Carlo Poliseno, scooted along the passing lane to get up at the wire in 1:59.1 to nose out fast finishing Mr. Performer (Art Stafford Jr.). Limavady Lad (Gene Long) was third.

The outside post eight was not a burden to Herve Filion driving Bobby Rice's 4-year-old Scylla Hanover. Off at 24-1, the all-time leading dash-winning driver in North America moved the daughter of The Panderosa to the outside at the half and grounded out a 1:57.3 lifetime-fastest win in an $8,000 mares pace, returning $50.40 for a $2 win wager.
