A strong rally by Lynch

June 02, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Tim Tetrick and Southwind Lynx showed you can rally from far off the pace at the half-mile Yonkers Raceway oval and even win a $1 million race as they captured the Art Rooney Pace with a 1:52.3 effort Saturday night. Tetrick came back in the very next race, the $242,620 Lismore for 3-year-old filly pacers, and won with Southwind Tempo in 1:52.4.

Tetrick and Southwind Lynx, a colt by Real Artist, left from post six and settled toward the back of the field as Max Hempt Pace champ Tivoli Hanover and Takeshigemichi, the runner-up in the Hempt, took turns leading the pace through the first half of :27.3 and :56.1. Just before the halfway mark Tony Morgan had Home Bed Advantage first-over and moving up to put pressure on Tivoli Hanover.

Down the backstretch Tetrick was third-over in the flow. Mattdultery was tipped from his first-over position in the last turn, and when Southwind Lynx hit the straightaway, Tetrick pulled him to the outside as well. Although he was next to last at the top of the lane, Southwind Lynx had enough track left to hit the wire one-half length the best with Forensic Z Tam getting up for third, Home Bed Advantage taking third, and Mattdultery finishing fourth.

Southwind Lynx was part of a two-horse entry by trainer George Teague Jr., who also owns Southwind Lynx in partnership with K & R Racing LLC.

Last year Teague won a $1 million race in the month of June when he captured the North America Cup with Total Truth.
