Astronomical became the fastest free-legged pacer in history with a 1:50 victory Tuesday night at Georgian Downs, an effort that also established a new all-age track record at the Astronomical, a 5-year-old son of Astreos, was driven by Randy Waples. They led at every call (:26.3, :55.1 and 1:22.1) before closing it out with a final stanza of :27.4 to hold off Our Lucky Killean by three-quarters of a length. The effort came in a $15,000(C) division of the Masters Pacing Series. Astronomical is owned by trainer Dr. Ian Moore, William Shearer and RG McGroup Ltd.
