A symphony in NYSS 3FP

Just before Buffalo Raceway’s 13-race program on Friday night, which featured $130,800 in New York Sire Stakes for 3-year-old pacing fillies, brief but intense thunderstorms passed through the area causing torrential rain and funnel cloud sightings. But neither the weather nor the resulting sloppy racetrack prevented Symphony In Motion from posting the fastest clocking of her peers in 1:57 in the second race.

The Bettor’s Delight filly came three wide at the three-quarters to blow by pacesetter Miss Chris and score by a length over Apple Delight. The Isle Of Pan was third.

Symphony In Motion did not start as a 2 year old and was making just the second start of her career after finishing second in an overnight at the Meadowlands for trainer Larry Remmen. The filly is owned by breeder Joseph Jannuzzelli with Carol Demarch.

“She doesn’t have a lot of experience, but Larry and Ray (Remmen) both said she was pretty good and she was here tonight,” said driver Jeff Gregory in the winner’s circle. “I think she could adapt to anything.”

After this race the track was upgraded to “good” for the remaining three New York Sire Stakes divisions.

Winbak Delight kept her perfect season alive by scoring her third victory in three starts this year for Kenneth Weckstein and Richard Rubin. The filly sat in the pocket until driver John Stark Jr. pulled her in the final turn to pace home in 2:00.1. She finished 3 ¼ lengths ahead of Liv Blue Chip. Gary Messenger trains the Bettor’s Delight daughter who was bred by Winbak Farm.

Owner Aaron Waxman had winners in the other two divisions with Ubettorthink Think and Lilmisswiggles.

Waxman owns Ubettorthink Think with Michelle McEneny and Joe Tinelli. Michelle’s husband Scott trains the Bettor’s Delight filly, who earned a mile-cutting 1:59.2 victory with Jim Morrill Jr. up. She has now won four of her seven starts this year, but missed the final of the $132,625 Empire Breeders Classic due to sickness.

“She wasn’t completely healthy for the final and I just didn’t want to race her like that,” explained the trainer. “I wanted to get her well for these Sire Stakes races.”

Waxman is the sole owner of Lilmisswiggles and admits she’s like a pet. The petite filly delayed the start of the race when her crouper broke and she had to return to the paddock, but the pit stock didn’t seem to affect her performance as she came wide around the first turn to take the early lead and held onto it until the pocket-sitting Deadlysatisfaction slid up the inside in the stretch. However, Deadlysatisfaction made a break just before the wire and Lilmisswiggles was lapped on and was placed first by the judges. She was timed in 2:01.

Lilmisswiggles was driven by leading Buffalo reinsman Kevin Cummings for trainer Duane Marfisi. The filly suffered from soundness issues last year and did not compete. So far this year she has won four of her nine starts.

Sire Bettor’s Delight stamped himself as the early leader of the pacing sire ranks as his daughters won all four divisions.

New York Sire Stakes action continues Saturday at Buffalo Raceway when the 3-year-old trotting colts hit the track. Post time is 6:30 p.m. (HHBNY)
