A tinted win at Pompano

Tintabella N proved once again that she is the top female pacer in South Florida after
prevailing for the fourth straight time, taking Friday’s $15,500 Fillies and Mares Open I Pace at Pompano Park in 1:54.2 despite racing over a surface listed as "sloppy" following a late-spring downpour.

Tintabella N was driven aggressively from post four by Daryl Bier, taking control of the Friday feature on the first turn and cutting out fractions of :28.1, :57.3, and 1:26.4 before entering the stretch with a two-length advantage. With her lead beginning to diminish at the hands of a late-charging Wilma Hall (Bruce Ranger), Tintabella N dug in late while responding to strong urging and retained the top spot through the wire, scoring by a neck after a final quarter mile clocked in :27.3.

Tintabella N returned $3.40, $2.60 for the victory, while Wilma Hall brought in $2.40 for second. There was no show wagering available on the race.

Owned by Glenn Del Russo and Bier, and trained by Gus Scarpias, Tintabella N has visited the winner’s circle in six of her last seven starts, including three consecutive victories while competing at the Open I level.

The team of Bier and Scarpias will send out 6-5 morning-line favorite Sandstorm N in Saturday’s $15,500 Open I Pace at Pompano. A six-time winner this year, the 6-year-old son of Sands A Flyin enters the Saturday feature on a two-race winning streak, most recently scoring in 1:50.3 on May 12. (Pompano Park)
