The Hambletonian-eligible trotter True Blue Lindy recovered from an early break to score his third consecutive victory of the season when defeating a field of older rivals in the ninth race at Pompano Park on Wednesday in 2:00.3.
Driven from post two by Bruce Ranger, True Blue Lindy went offstride as the gate swung open and dropped back to seventh place before recovering his gait, leaving Alberto Comer (Lawrence Hayward) and Sizzling Jared (Rick Schaut) to duel for the lead through a moderate opening quarter mile in :30.1.
As Alberto Comer took the field past the half-mile marker in 1:00.3, Ranger angled True Blue Lindy off the pylons to briefly grab the cover of a weakening Sizzling Jared, before tipping his colt three wide to pass that tiring foe.
After a three-quarters split in 1:29.4, Alberto Comer entered the stretch with a half-length advantage over True Blue Lindy, who continued to gain ground with each and every stride. With his lead rapidly diminishing in mid-stretch, Alberto Comer made a break, giving the top spot to True Blue Lindy as the finish line approached.
True Blue Lindy was unchallenged in the final yards, prevailing by 1 ¾ lengths over the 52-1 longshot Crown Candie (John Kakaley). Edgewood (Anders Jahre) closed from eighth place to finish third.
True Blue Lindy returned $2.80, $3.60, $2.40 for the victory, while remaining unbeaten in three starts this year. Crown Candie brought in $47.40, $6.40 for second, while Edgewood paid $7.40 for third.
Owned by Klaus Ringl of Austria and trained by Rolf Ebener, True Blue Lindy is a 3-year-old son of Dream Vacation, out of the Joie De Vie mare Indigo.
True Blue Lindy’s three-race winning streak began on March 7, when the colt pulled the biggest upset of the year at Pompano Park, prevailing at odds of 103-1. (Pompano Park)
