The second session of the Standardbred Horse Sales Company's yearling auction finished Tuesday night with 352 horses selling for an average price of $34,064, an increase of about 23 percent from the results generated at last year's second day. Cumulatively, after two sessions the sale was riding a 14 percent increase in average.

A total of 63 yearlings had been sold for prices of $100,000 or more in the opening two sessions, up from 51 last year. With the top end of the market giving it a big boost, the Standardbred Horse Sales Company’s annual yearling auction in Harrisburg posted another increase in its second session on Tuesday. Twelve yearlings sold for prices of $100,000 or more in the second session.

Nineteen different sires had offspring bring prices of $100,000 or more in the opening two sessions, and more than half of the six-figure yearlings were sired by trotting sires.

As a result, trotting sires posted the strongest averages through the first two sessions. Conway Hall’s 25 yearlings generated an average price of $78,680; Credit Winner’s 15 brought an average of $73,400; and Andover Hall, still a sensation with his second crop, followed with an average of $72,333 for 42 offspring.

On the pacing front, New York-based Bettor’s Delight boosted his numbers when his progeny Zepplin Blue Chip and Jagger Blue Chip delivered a one-two punch as hips 549 and 550, selling for $175,000 and $100,000, respectively. The 23 offspring by Bettor’s Delight sold in sessions one and two brought an average price of $53,174. The late Artsplace generated the second highest average, $49,214 for 35 yearlings, while the first crop of Art Major proved popular with 52 of his offspring bringing an average of $47,327.
