Average drops at Ky. sale

A full brother to the top 2-year-old colt trotter Ken Warkentin was the sale topper at the Kentucky Standardbred Sales Company yearling auction at Fasig-Tipton with a price of $290,000, but despite the high-priced seller the overall average price for the three-day session resulted in a drop of 6.95 percent from 2003.



The sale offered 459 yearlings, which brought a gross total of $12,612,700, generating an average of $27,479. The 193 trotters that went through the ring brought an average price of $29,679, while the 266 pacers averaged $25,882. Trotting fillies brought the highest average with 85 yearlings averaging $32,353 each.



Including Bye Bye C Ya, the trotting colt by Yankee Glide-Jambo and the full brother to Ken Warkentin, who was purchased by Ohioan Robert Kauffman, there were 15 horses that sold for more than $100,000 at the Kentucky Standardbred sale that concluded Monday, Oct. 4.



Tattersalls sells this week with action getting underway Wednesday night and continuing nightly through Saturday.
