With yearlings from the first crop by Andover Hall fetching big money, the annual Standardbred Horse Sales Company yearling auction at Harrisburg, Pa., appears headed for a solid finish. Through Tuesday's second session, when an Andover yearling was sold for $250,000 - the fourth by the sire to top $200,000 - the average price at the sale was $38,782.



Last year's first two sessions generated a combined average of $36,150, which indicates this year's sale could finish ahead of last year's auction.



Yearlings by trotting sire Andover Hall were extremely popular. Four yearlings were left to sell on Wednesday. Of the 57 that sold in the first two sessions, 10 brought prices of $100,000 or more.



The highest price for an Andover Hall yearling during Tuesday's session was an Andover Hall colt out of Ashley's Carousel, whose maternal family includes Warrawee Kirra, a $300,000 winner, and Fun And Strokes. Walnridge Farm, acting as agent, consigned the colt which brought a bid of $250,000 from Monte Gelrod, who was acting as agent.
