Izzy Katzman, a multiple award-winning reporter including the United States Harness Writers Association and Delaware Sports Hall of Fame, died at the age of 90 Tuesday in Wilmington, Del. Mr. Katzman spent 36 years at The Wilmington (Del.) News Journal before retiring in 1986. Twice, he was named Delaware Sportswriter of the Year.

In 1993, Mr. Katzman was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame and the following year he was inducted into the Communicators' Corner of the Hall of Fame in Goshen, N.Y.

Mr. Katzman, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., excelled in all areas of sports reporting, especiall thoroughbred and harness racing, track and field and University of Delaware football. During the last two decades as a writer, he wrote a three-times a week column featuring major events in the sport and of Brandywine Raceway.

Mr. Katzman received the Herm Reitzes Award at the 1987 Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association Banquet. The award, named after the late WDEL radio sportscaster, is given by the DSBA membership to the man or woman who has contributed to sports in the spirit of Reitzes.

Earlier this year, Batz donated several books, writings and photos from Mr. Katzman's collection, to the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in Wilmington. The Katzman library is part of the museum's collection on display to the public daily.
