May 24, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The Meadows will begin freshmen orientation Thursday, as the first baby races of the 2006 season get underway. Among those scheduled to start is a half brother to Little Brown Jug winner Timesareachanging.

There will be two splits of baby races prior to Thursday’s pari-mutuel races: one for filly trotters and the other with filly and colt pacers.

The first baby race is headlined by Brioni Suite, a Mickey Burke trainee, who was purchased for $25,000 at the Lexington Selected Sale. Brioni Suite is a daughter of Self Possessed – Winky’s Chip. Mike Wilder will steer from post position one.

Lazan Hanover, the half-sister to Timesareachanging, is one of five Mickey Burke entrants in the field of six pacers, in the second split. Lazan Hanover, purchased for $17,000 in the New Jersey Classic Sale, will be driven by Tony Hall from post position five. TJ’s Ideal ($21,000 yearling purchase), Prime Ideal ($25,000 yearling purchase), Striptease Hall ($22,000 yearling purchase) and Jordanian ($5,000 yearling purchase) are the other Burke entrants. DVC Dixie Cocktail, trained by David Brickell, completes the field of six pacers.

The baby races begin at 5:00 pm and 5:15 pm. The pari-mutuel racing will begin at 6:00 pm with 12 races scheduled.
