Peter Tritton's Ball Gown A ($4.60, Tony Morgan) became the third different winner in three weeks in the top distaff feature at Harrington Raceway, capturing the $20,000 Mares Open in 1:53.1 Tuesday. The Tritton trainee and driver Tony Morgan were sent to the front where they would lead the pack of six to an opening half mile in :57.4. She then paced the back half in :55.2, holding off a game first-over Dance Hall for a one-length score. Ireneonthemove closed well for third. Ball Gown A, a 6-year-old Presidential Ball mare, has won five races this year and more than $61,000. She was one of four winners on the program for Morgan.
Harrington Raceway has announced its second purse increase in less than a month, to go in effect the first week of September. That will bring the track's average daily purse distribution to approximately $155,000.
