Heavy rains that pelted the Southland area throughout the night and early this morning along with a quick thaw due to rising temperatures have created unsafe racing conditions, forcing Balmoral Park management to cancel the Sunday racing program. With more rain expected and the possibility of the precipitation changing to snow as the day continues track management and horseman have agreed to cancel for the safety of everyone involved. This marks the fourth cancellation over the past two weeks due to the inclement weather the Chicagoland area has been experiencing. Balmoral Park will remain open for simulcast wagering on Sunday and Monday. Live racing is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, Feb. 19, with an 11-race program beginning at 7:20 p.m. Since the 50 Cent Pick 5 was not hit on Saturday night there will be a nice carryover pool of $4,902 added to Tuesday’s wagering. With the carryover, Balmoral Park mutuel manager Bill Mudro estimates a Pick 5 pool of around $20,000 on Tuesday night. The Pick 5 is contested on races three thru seven and post time for Tuesday’s third race is expected to be in the neighborhood of 7:50 p.m. (central). (Balmoral Park)
