Bar Slide played catch me if you can as a breaking Poof She’s Gone scattered the field turning for home and scored victory in the $750,000 Hambleonian Oaks Saturday at the Meadowlands. Tim Tetrick guided the Yankee Glide-Marla Bar filly to her biggest career win, followed by Ultimate Cameron and Springtime Volo, in 1:53.4.
Tetrick fired the 3-1 Bar Slide to the front from post five at the start as Ultimate Cameron and Fashion Feline made bids from the far outside. Fashion Feline and Brian Sears would lead the three-filly breakaway group, setting fractions of :27 and :54.4 as favorite Poof She’s Gone and David Miller raced in fourth. By the time the field reached three quarters (1:24.1), Bar Slide and Tetrick had pulled the pocket and took control with Poof She’s Gone closing. But the Dan Patch award winner broke stride and handed Bar Slide the advantage.
Out front and looking for the wire, Bar Slide hit the wire first as Ultimate Cameron (Trevor Ritchie) and Springtime Volo, driven by George Brennan, closed. The victory was the third seasonal score for the Joe Holloway-trained filly. Bred by Fair Winds Farm and owned by Fredericka Caldwell and Bluestone Farms LLC, Bar Slide possessed $176,801 in earnings coming into the Hambletonian Oaks.
The victory was Tetrick's second Hambletonian Oaks triumph. He guided Danae to victory in the 2007 edition.
