Fox Valley Barzgar paced a stakes record 1:50.2 with a gate to wire victory in the $410,000 Woodrow Wilson final Friday night at the Meadowlands.
“He earned some respect last week and I was hoping it would go the way it did,” winning driver Tony Morgan said. “It just worked out as a good trip. He’s a good colt and he was well prepared. I was so shocked that he was so relaxed tonight. He was on the bit last week. He felt like he’d do whatever you wanted to do tonight.”
Fox Valley Barzgar drew off to a three-length victory over Mr Apples. Artzina, who came into the race with a three-race winning streak, finished third by seven lengths.
Trained by Tom Harmer, Fox Valley Barzgar eclipsed the stakes record of 1:51.1 set by Allamerican Native in 2002.
The son of Incredible Finale, owned by Michael Polansky of Loudonville, N. Y., improved his record to four wins in five starts and earnings of $231,950. (Meadowlands)
