She has yet to score a victory in this series. Yet a lass named Bath Beach has shown such final-quarter speed that she’s rated the 6-5 morning line favourite going into the $67,000 final of the Princess Pacing Series for three-year-old fillies, this Thursday night at Mohawk racetrack. In the first leg of the Princess series, Bath Beach, who captured the Miss Vera Bars final at Woodbine back in February, used her patented come-from-behind style to take home a cheque for third, some six lengths behind Topaz Seelster and Blogette Hanover. She improved on that result in the series second leg last Thursday, pacing under the wire in second place to longshot Real Heart. With final panels of :27.1 and :27.2 respectively in those efforts, Bath Beach has proven she has a mean closing kick. Now it remains to be seen if linesman Paul MacDonell can use that talent to seal the deal when Bath Beach, who is trained and co-owned by LaSalle, Ontario native Dean Nixon, leaves from the more advantageous post position #1 on May 7. The Princess Pacing Series final is scheduled as race #6 on Mohawk’s Thursday night card. (WEG)
