Baylander had little trouble negotiating a winning trip from post eight on Tuesday, scoring a visually impressive victory in the featured $5,500 non-winners pace at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway in 1:55. Driven by Dan Cappello Jr., Baylander was content to settle along the pylons in sixth place as first Sharp Attack Jet (Scott Mongeon), and then Ohoka Direct N (Brian Cross), took the field through early splits of :27.4 and :57.3. As the pacers negotiated the third turn of the mile, Baylander was angled to the outside to make an aggressive charge at the leader, and with a rush the son of Shady Character cruised past his rivals to claim the lead through a three-quarter split in 1:25.4. Baylander entered the stretch with a three-length lead, and the result was never truly in doubt as the gelding continued to sprint clear of his overmatched foes to prevail by 5 ˝ lengths at the wire. Baylander returned $9.20, $5.50, and $3.60 for the victory. Ohoka Direct N brought in $3.90 and $3.10 for second, while Now Really paid $5.20 for third. Owned by John De Gregory and trained by David Corlew, Baylander is a six-time winner from 19 seasonal starts, with a career record of 10 wins from 57 appearances and a lifetime bankroll in excess of $57,000.
