Beach Memories, a 4-year old gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere out of the Western Ideal mare AllAmerican Memoir, set a new track mark at Scioto Downs Saturday night. He's trained by Brian Brown for owners Strollin Stable, AWS Stable, King McNamara and Country Club Acres.
Josh Sutton drove the winner, one of six for the driver on the night. On Wednesday night Sutton was driving Fashion Fun in the second race when the horse threw a shoe and it ricocheted off the racetrack and came back and hit him in the face. Sutton pulled the trotter up and did not finish the race. He didn't drive for the rest of the card. Sutton was taken to The Ohio State University Hospital where he received 17 stitches. He was off his drives on Thursday, but was back in the action on Friday at Scioto Downs.
As for Beach Memories, the duo lstarted from post four in the full field of nine. Sutton pushed the gate away to gain command before they hit the first turn. The first quarter was a fast paced :26 flat. Rockin Wizard made a quick move to the front for Ronnie Wrenn Jr. and gave Beach Memories a perfect two-hole trip. The pace was still quick, with the half in :53.4. Then the outer flow started to develop down the backside. Taking them to the three quarters in 1.21.4.
Rockin Finish carried the pocket sitter, Beach Memories, all the way before he was pulled wide in the stretch and cruised home a 2 1/2-length winner. Rockin Finish held for second with Ardyne Ace a wide and fast-closing third. (Scioto)
