Beach Party AS used a sparkling off-the-pace rally to capture the $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for two-year-old trotting fillies on Thursday night at Mohawk Racetrack.

Peter Wallinder was in the driver’s seat behind the rookie daughter of Kadabra – Donella AS and got her away in third position from post one behind Peach Martini and South Bay through an opening quarter of :28.3.

Peach Martini was able to rate a :30.3 second quarter and took the field past the half in :59 seconds before facing first pressure from Oh Sweet Baby in the third quarter. Peach Martini held sway past the third marker in 1:27.4 with Oh Sweet Baby continuing to challenge while Enchantment was positioned perfectly second over.

Beach Party AS, who was locked up in fifth, caught a break, however, at the top of the stretch when Enchantment made a break in stride. That left clearance for Beach Party AS to swing to the outside and begin her rally.

The filly soared past her rivals in the late stages to win easily in a time of 1:57.1. Peach Martini held bravely for second with Oh Sweet Baby finishing third ahead of a charging Eagle Canada. The winner returned a whopping $57.10 despite winning in her elimination a week earlier.

The Anette Lorentzon trainee has now won twice in just three outings this season for owners Acl Stuteri of Paris, Kentucky. The winner’s share of the purse boosted her earnings to just over $85,000. (WEG)
