Bee A Magician continues magical OSS year

Return Home
October 10, 2012 | Print View

Driver Rick Zeron crafted the ideal second over trip for Bee A Magician in the ninth race at Georgian Downs on Tuesday evening, and the 2-year-old trotting filly sprinted home to her second $130,000 Gold Final title.

Starting from Post five, fan favorites Zeron and Bee A Magician settled into fifth spot as Angies Lucky Star rolled out to a :27.4 opening quarter. Heading for the :58.3 halfway marker elimination winner Mario Baillargeon and Motown Muscle tipped to the outside from fourth, providing the ideal cover for Bee A Magician.

Angies Lucky Star and driver Trevor Henry continued to lead at the 1:27 three-quarters, but Motown Muscle had closed to within a length and Zeron was readying Bee A Magician for her late charge. Turning for home Bee A Magician was one and three-quarter lengths behind the pacesetter, but her trademark late brush carried her past Angies Lucky Star and on to a 2 1/4-length victory in 1:55.3.

Angies Lucky Star fought all the way down the stretch into the runner-up spot, with Motown Muscle nine lengths back in third. Bee A Magician's stablemate Choir Robe earned the fourth-place share, 13 1/4 lengths to the rear, and Moms Apple Pie completed the money earners in the last regular season Gold event.

Oakville resident Zeron engineered the victory for trainer Richard "Nifty” Norman and owners Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, Ont., Herb Liverman of Miami Beach, Fla, and David McDuffee of Delray Beach. Fla. Through 11 starts the daughter of Kadabra and Beehive has tallied nine wins and one second for earnings of $536,190.

Bee A Magician posted her other Gold Final victory at Mohawk Racetrack on Aug. 9 and boasts a flawless record of four wins in four Gold Elimination appearances. In addition to her Ontario Sires Stakes success, Bee A Magician also triumphed in open stakes action this summer.

Competing at Mohawk Racetrack against the top freshman trotting fillies in North American, Bee A Magician posted a victory in her Aug. 30 Champlain Stakes division, her Sept. 6 Peaceful Way elimination and again in the $435,000 Peaceful Way final on Sept. 15. The filly has not been bested since Charmed Life kept a nose in front to claim the July 22 Gold Final at Flamboro Downs.

Bee A Magician is expected to face a rematch against the top fillies in the Oct. 19 Breeders Crown Eliminations at Woodbine Racetrack, hoping to advance to the $600,000 final one week later. The filly will then lead the top 10 Gold Series point earners back to Woodbine for the Nov. 10 Super Final. (OSS)
